Centrally located on the banks of the Yarra River, SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium takes you on an awe-inspiring journey through 12 amazing zones of discovery.

Visitors will be transported to Australia’s spectacular landscapes and encounter the unique aquatic animals that call them home.   

Be mesmerised as you experience a rainbow of colours at Seahorse Pier and explore the depths of the Port Phillip Bay in Bay of Rays, home to the world’s only display of Elephant Sharks.  

Journey to the diverse landscape of the Northern Territory in Croc Lair and come face-to-face with Pinjarra, one of the largest Saltwater Crocodiles on display anywhere in the world!

Prepare to be transported to the lush, humid and balmy temperatures of the tropical north in Rainforest Adventure where you can wonder at some of the truly unique animals not found anywhere else in the world including the world’s largest display of Archerfish!

The underwater adventure continues into the depths of Australia’s oceans where an enchanting paradise awaits in Mermaid Garden.  Soak up the breathtaking panoramic view as huge stingrays, massive sharks and thousands of multi-coloured marine animals swim by.

Penguin Playground completes the unforgettable experience where visitors can marvel as the majestic King and cheeky Gentoo Penguins slip and slide across the snow-covered ice.

Things to do

Coral Atoll

You’ll be mesmerised by the amazing colours of Coral Atoll. Witness what it’s like to live in the beautiful coral reefs in the floor-to-ceiling display. Home to a range of exotic animals, you’re guaranteed to learn something new!

Penguin Passport

This once in a lifetime experience will see you suiting up in full Antarctic snow gear as you get up close and personal with the aquarium’s resident colony of sub-Antarctic penguins. You’ll come face-to-beak with the beautiful King, and oh so cute, Gentoo penguins in this 45 minute tour, making this a must-do experience for anyone visiting the aquarium. Tours run on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm & 2:00pm.

Seahorse Pier

Marvel at the largest collection of seahorse and sea dragon species in the world! Home to the specialised breeding programs, the colourful and exciting exhibit is the perfect way to learn all about these mysterious creatures.

Melbourne Aquarium is located in the CBD, on the banks of the Yarra River at the corner of King St and Flinders St, Melbourne, Victoria 3000.

How to get there

  • Train
    Melbourne Aquarium is a short walk from either Flinders St or Southern Cross train stations.
  • Tram
    The Melbourne Aquarium superstop is located on the free City Circle Tram route and also Route 48, 70 & 75.

    City Circle trams run every 10 minutes in both directions.

  • Car Parking
    While there is no public car parking at Melbourne Aquarium, there are several public car parking facilities available only a short walk away.
  • The Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle is a FREE bus service, stopping at key tourist attractions and destinations in and around the City. Runs daily, every 15mins from 10:00am to 4:00pm
